Vocabulary: Tourist places

Souvenir shop or Gift shop: a shop that sells goods that are suitable for giving as presents


Sandwich bar: a small shop where you can buy sandwiches, especially to eat during the working day


Money exchange: a place where you can exchange foreign currency, but that does not provide any other banking services.


Train stationa place with one or more buildings and platforms where trains stop for people to get on or off


Postcard: a card, often with a photograph or picture on one side, that can be sent without an envelope


Cola: a sweet, bubbly, brown drink that does not contain alcohol, or a glass of this drink


Battery: a device that produces electricity to provide power for radios, cars, etc


Single ticket or One way ticket: a ticket entitling a passenger to travel only to his or her destination, without returning


Money: coins or notes (= special pieces of paper) that are used to buy things, or an amount of these that a person has


Return ticket: a ticket for travel to a place and back again


Coffee: a dark brown powder with a strong flavour and smell that is made by crushing coffee beans, or a hot drink made from this powder


Platform: a long, flat raised structure at a railway station, where people get on and off trains


Exchange rate: the rate at which the money of one country can be changed for the money of another country


Souvenir: something you buy or keep to help you remember a holiday or special event
